    Among the finalists is Portland’s newest restaurant Kann, Southern Oregon chef Joshua Dorcak and The Burgerville Workers Union.

    PORTLAND, Ore. — The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists for its 2023 James Beard Awards in various categories on Wednesday. With many finalists brewing all across the country, several Oregon restaurants and chefs made the list.

    The foundation will be announcing the winners at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in June.

  • Coastal tourism management group aims to keep the ‘local’ in Oregon’s local seafood

    As thousands of visitors flock to the Oregon Coast every year, most of them are looking for the fresh high-quality seafood that is distinctly Oregonian.

    But a study commissioned recently by the Oregon Coast Visitors Association – the destination management organization serving the entire Oregon Coast from Astoria to Brookings – found shockingly that about 90 percent of the seafood consumed on the coast is imported from other domestic and international sources.

    In response, OCVA has launched the Ocean Cluster Initiative – United States Department of Agriculture-funded program entitled “Capturing Value by Keeping Local Seafood Local” – to help combat that trend. The initiative…

    BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Hayden Homes Amphitheater is looking for a few good food trucks.

    The application window is now open for vendors looking to partner with Oregon’s largest outdoor music venue. The Hayden Homes Amphitheater hosted 52 concerts in 2022, including sold out shows by Kenny Chesney, Nine Inch Nails, ODESZA, The Chicks, and more.

    “We work long, hard and often hot hours, but we have a blast doing it,” says Kris Ann Palacios, the amphitheater’s food & beverage manager. “We’re hoping to find business partners who love food and music as much as we do.”

    PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The opening date for Oregon’s ocean commercial Dungeness crab season has been delayed until Dec. 16, and possibly longer, after pre-season testing revealed high levels of domoic acid and underweight crabs.

    The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the delay on Nov. 18, stating that it will prevent wasted crab meat and assure a high-quality product for consumers.

    “Pre-season testing shows crabs are too low in meat yield in some areas,” the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a press release. “Elevated domoic acid also was detected in some crab viscera [or] guts.”…

    SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) – The 2022 growing season has proven to be better than Seed to Table Executive Director Audrey Tehan hoped for.

    “Wow! What an incredible season it’s been. With a combination of our greenhouse expansions, warm October weather, and our amazing farm team’s experiences we will be continuing the produce share through November 16th!” said Tehan. “We have 110 families in our produce share. They’ve received S2T produce for 30 weeks this year!”

    This will make S2T produce share (also known as a CSA- Community Supported Agriculture) one of the longest running shares in Central Oregon…
