We build the tools to fuel your brightest ideas.

We appreciate that it isn’t always glamorous and that breakthroughs are a lot harder than in the movies. We know how it feels to basically never feel like a superhero, especially when it seems like the answers are anywhere but in your data. We also know that for every failed experiment, late-night, and cold cup of coffee, you’re helping light the way toward progress, and it’s because of you that each day is a little brighter than the day before.

Q. How did the science part come into play?
A. We have always loved science, and were looking for a way to venerate those who dedicate their lives to it.

Q. How did the name of the company come about?
A. The term Cognitive Surplus was coined by American author Clay Shirky. It describes the extra mental bandwidth that people have, and how all of our free time can be utilized to build other interesting things.  After you finish work, what do you spend your brain power doing? What passions do you fuel with your Cognitive Surplus? We use our Cognitive Surplus to create products to help nurture and inspire those passions.

Q. What brought you all to Central Oregon?
A. We had outgrown our Portland warehouse, and in our search for a larger space, we were lucky enough to find a beautiful warehouse near the Redmond airport that fit our needs perfectly. The area is gorgeous, so it was an easy decision to pick up the whole company and move it to Redmond.
