There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with the US Forest Service and help our public lands and it’s a great way to get outside.
The Deschutes National Forest in partnership with Discover Your Forest, is hosting a Volunteer Information Night on Thursday, October 17th, 2019. We will offer information to members of the public interested in assisting with educational programs at Mt. Bachelor and other locations on the Forest during the 2019-2020 Winter season.
The Volunteer Information Night will be held on October 17th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Deschutes National Forest headquarters: 63095 Deschutes Market Road in Bend. The event is focused on recruiting volunteers to serve as winter interpretive rangers and winter conservation education…

This Thursday October 3rd Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Carol Wall for a history wander around Camp Polk Meadow Preserve. Explore the starring role that Camp Polk played in the history of Central Oregon as one of the original stopping places on the Santiam Wagon Road. Admire the craftsmanship of the Hindman barn (one of Deschutes County’s oldest structures) and imagine what living in the Hindman house would have been like for the Hindman family. Hike Rating: This is an easy, less than 1-mile walk on a gravel trail. Portions will be off trail through a grassy meadow.

On Saturday September 28th join SOLVE, in partnership with the Oregon Lottery, for the 36th annual Beach & Riverside Cleanup to cleanup and restore Oregon waterways and natural areas. This is one of many projects happening statewide to bring Oregonians together to care for the places we love.

The last of the season tonight Sept 26th at Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe. What began as a couple of kayakers creating tunes on the back deck after a long day on the river, has grown into Pickin’ N’ Paddlin’ 2019, a cult-classic community celebration to raise funds for Bend Paddle Trail Alliance (BPTA) whose mission is to establish a navigable paddle trail within Deschutes County to enhance river and lake recreation opportunities while promoting water safety, education, and stewardship.

On September 28, 2019, more than 150,000 volunteers across the country will participate in activities aimed at restoring and caring for our public lands to celebrate the 26th annual National Public Lands Day.
Central Oregonians can join Friends of the Central Cascades Wilderness on our 6th annual Love It and Leave It Clean Day Hike as we collect trash and clean up our local wilderness trails and campsites.
