Found: A Life in Mountain Rescue by Bree Loewen

3pm Sunday June 10 at Roundabout Books in Northwest Crossing.
Bree’s first book Pickets and Deadmen was about her account of being a climbing ranger at age 21 on Mount Rainier. Now 10 years later, Bree Loewen has become a wife, a mother, and a leader of Seattle Mountain Rescue (SMR), a volunteer-based search-and-rescue operation. She ponders the question of why she continues to head into the backcountry, confronting danger, risk, and, often, death.
Bree feels like the job of search and rescue suits her uniquely. Competent yet nurturing, her peers feel like if they ever needed to be rescued they’d want her to do the job. It’s not an easy task especially when what she does is so physical and emotionally demanding and when many of the rescues turn in to retrievals –sometimes from within the close knit community of skiers and climbers she counts as friend.
