Fire Ban on All Public Lands and City of Bend Recreational Burning

Posted on in category Travel & Adventure

Today the Bootleg fire in Southern Oregon is the largest wildfire in the United States. It has burned an area larger than New York City, having caused property losses and now threatens thousands of homes.  Although our focus here at Backyardbend is on what to do outdoors in Central Oregon, we want to also acknowledge important issues that affect the community when warranted.

The wildfire season is early and already harsh. The Grandview and Darlene fires are currently burning and threatening communities in Central Oregon. As we head out this weekend please be cautious. Fires can be started from vehicles and motorcycles on forest roads and off road situations. hot exhaust systems can easily spark wildfires.

Our Trend from yesterday has links to Central Oregon Fire Information that has current updates on all active fires.

A fire ban is in effect on all public lands and the City of Bend fire department has banned all recreational fires in the city. Please follow the bans and be careful as you head out this weekend in #backyardbend.

This video from the Bootleg fire is a reminder how real and devastating wildfires are. The video is from the Guardian and can be seen HERE.
