Central Oregon Wildfire Update

Posted on in category Travel & Adventure

Wildfire season is here. You can get updates on wildfires in our region on the BYB weather/conditions pages. Look for the Central Oregon Fire Information link.  Stay informed and know where current fires are.  Lighting moved through Central Oregon a few days ago and several incidents have popped up.

Firefighters responded to 10 lightning caused fires yesterday that came out of this week’s lightning storm. Of the 10 most were kept to a quarter of an acre or less. The 2 largest fires, grew to 40 and 30 acres respectively. The 40-acre day basin fire was 7 miles southwest of Dayville and was being worked on as a bulldozer was able to get a line around it and ground crews were working to secure the perimeter. The 30-acre fire was 12 miles NW of Millican and being worked on by firefighters from the Brothers-Hampton Rangeland Fire Protection Association and the BLM.

Also be aware of fire restrictions this time of year. Be safe and be informed.

Effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, June 26, Public Use Restrictions (PURS) are in place around federally managed lands in Central Oregon. This means that all open fires, including wood stoves and charcoal briquette fires, will be prohibited, except in designated campgrounds. To learn about current restrictions, closures, alerts and warnings visit the Deschutes National Forest Alerts & Notices page.
